How do roots take water so a seed can grow?
বীজ বড় হতে মূল কীভাবে পানি নেয়?
When you put a dry seed near water, its skin gets soft. The seed soaks up water like a small sponge. This wakes the seed up and starts growth.
শুকনো বীজ পানির কাছে গেলে খোসা নরম হয়। বীজ স্পঞ্জের মতো পানি টেনে নেয়। তখন বীজ ঘুম থেকে উঠে বাড়তে শুরু করে।
A tiny root grows out first. The root goes down into the wet soil or paper towel. Roots have tiny parts that pull water up into the seed.
প্রথমে একটু ছোট মূল বের হয়। মূল ভিজে থাকা মাটিতে বা টিস্যুতে নিচে চলে যায়। মূলের ছোট অংশ পানি টেনে উপরে পাঠায়।
Water moves inside the seed to the new stem and leaves. With water, the seed makes food and grows into a little plant.
পানি বীজের ভিতরে ডাঁটা এবং পাতায় চলে যায়। পানির সাহায্যে বীজ খাবার তৈরি করে এবং ছোট গাছ হয়ে ওঠে।
Some seeds can wait many months without water before they start to grow.
কিছু বীজ অনেক মাস পানি না পেলেও অপেক্ষা করতে পারে, তারপর বাড়তে শুরু করে।

Try it with a grown-up: put a few seeds on a wet paper towel inside a clear cup. Keep the towel damp and watch roots and the tiny stem after a few days.
