Why do shadows become long or short and point different ways during the day?
সকালে সূর্য আকাশে নিচুতে থাকে। আলো নিচু কোণ থেকে আসে। তাই ছায়া লম্বা হয় এবং সূর্যের বিপরীত দিকে থাকে।
In the morning the sun is low in the sky. Light comes from a low angle. This makes long shadows that point away from the sun.
দুপুরে সূর্য উপরে থাকে। আলো ওপরে থেকে আসে। তাই ছায়া ছোট হয় এবং জিনিসগুলোর গোড়ার কাছে থাকে।
At noon the sun is high. Light comes from above. This makes short shadows close to the feet of things.
সন্ধ্যায় সূর্য অন্য পাশে আবার নিচুতে থাকে। আলো অন্য নিচু কোণ থেকে আসে। ছায়া আবার লম্বা হয় এবং অন্য দিকে ইশারা করে।
In the evening the sun is low again on the other side. Light comes from the other low angle. Shadows become long again and point the other way.
ছায়া বদলায় কারণ সূর্য যেন আকাশে চলে, কিন্তু আসলে পৃথিবী ঘুরছে।
Shadows change because the sun looks like it moves across our sky, but really Earth is turning.
