Why does the Moon look different each night?
চাঁদ কেন প্রতিরাতে আলাদাভাবে দেখা যায়?
The Moon does not make its own light. Sunlight shines on the Moon. Part of the Moon becomes bright where sunlight hits it.
চাঁদ নিজে আলোকিত নয়। সূর্যের আলো চাঁদে পড়ে, তাই যেখানে আলো পড়ে সেই অংশ উজ্জ্বল দেখা যায়।
As the Moon moves around Earth, we see different amounts of its sunlit side. Sometimes we see a thin curve, sometimes a half, and sometimes the whole bright side.
চাঁদ যখন পৃথিবীর চারপাশে ঘোরে, আমরা আলোকিত পাশের বিভিন্ন অংশ দেখি। কখনো চিকন চাঁদ, কখনো অর্ধেক, আবার কখনো পুরো উজ্জ্বল পাশ দেখা যায়।
The main phases are new moon, crescent, first quarter (half), gibbous, and full moon. These happen in a pattern about every 29.5 days.

You can sometimes see the faint dark part of the Moon lit by Earthshine — sunlight reflected from Earth.
