আফসানা আর রাফি সন্ধ্যায় বাড়ির কাছে খেলছিল। তারা মাটিতে একটা ছোট লণ্ঠন জ্বলতে দেখল। "দেখো, রাফি!"
Afsana and Rafi were playing near their home at dusk. They saw a little lantern glowing on the ground.
আফসানা আর রাফি সন্ধ্যায় বাড়ির কাছে খেলছিল। তারা মাটিতে একটা ছোট লণ্ঠন জ্বলতে দেখল। "দেখো, রাফি!" বলল আফসানা। তারা একসাথে আলোটা অনুসরণ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল।
Afsana and Rafi were playing near their home at dusk. They saw a little lantern glowing on the ground. "Look, Rafi!" said Afsana. They decided to follow the light together.
লণ্ঠনটা বাগানের ধারে একটা পাথরের ওপর ছিল। ছোট ছোট লণ্ঠনগুলো আমগাছের দিকে একটা পথ তৈরি করেছিল। "ধীরে যাব?" জিজ্ঞেস করল রাফি। আফসানা মাথা নেড়ে সম্মতি দিল, আর তারা সাবধানে হাঁটা শুরু করল।
The lantern sat on a stone at the garden edge. Little lanterns made a trail into the mango trees. "Shall we go slowly?" asked Rafi. Afsana nodded and they walked carefully.
পথটা ঘুরে পুকুরের কাছে গেল। রাফি ভেজা ঘাসে পিছলে গেল। আফসানা তার হাত ধরল এবং তাকে উঠতে সাহায্য করল। "তুমি ঠিক আছো?" সে জিজ্ঞেস করল। রাফি হাসিমুখে বলল, "হ্যাঁ"।
The trail turned and went near the pond. Rafi slipped on wet grass. Afsana grabbed his hand and helped him up. "Are you okay?" she asked. Rafi smiled and said yes.
তারা ছোট একটা ঝুপড়ির কাছে আরও লণ্ঠন দেখল। একটা খুঁটিতে কাগজের একটা নোট বাঁধা ছিল। নোটে লেখা ছিল, "আশ্চর্য খুঁজো, কিন্তু একজন বড়কে জানাও।" আফসানা তা জোরে পড়ল এবং তারা একে অপরের দিকে তাকাল।
The lantern sat on a stone at the garden edge. A small paper note was tied to one post. The note said, "Find the surprise but tell an adult." Afsana read it aloud and they looked at each other.
তারা সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই আম্মু আর আব্বুকে গিয়ে জানাল। আম্মু হেসে টর্চ নিয়ে এলেন। সবাই মিলে সাবধানে ঝুপড়িটা খুলল। ভেতরে ছিল একটা পিকনিক সেট আর পাকা আমভরা একটি ঝুড়ি।
They ran to tell their Amma and Abbu right away. Their Amma smiled and came with a torch. Together they opened the shed carefully. Inside was a picnic set and a basket of ripe mangoes.
আম্মু বলল, "তোমরা আমাদের জানিয়ে ভালো করেছ।" রাফি আর আফসানা ঘাসে বসে আমের ফালিগুলো ভাগ করে খেল। তারা গর্বিত আর খুশি অনুভব করল। লণ্ঠনগুলো ছিল তাদের প্রতিবেশীর একটি সুন্দর চমক।
Amma said, "You did right to tell us." Rafi and Afsana sat on the grass and shared mango slices. They felt proud and happy. The lanterns were just a kind surprise from their neighbour.
